Terms of Service

Last updated: October 17, 2026

In short: by using BuyJury you agree to these terms. BuyJury helps you think before you buy, but every purchase decision is yours. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel.

1. Agreement to terms

By downloading, installing or using the BuyJury mobile application (“App”), or voting on a BuyJury poll through a BuyJury link (together, the “Services”), you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). These Terms are a legally binding agreement between you and Leon Parsaud, a sole proprietor carrying on business as NextVentureLab (“we”, “us” or “our”), based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

2. Description of service

BuyJury is an iPhone app that helps people avoid impulse purchases. It lets you:

  • Put an item on hold for a set time instead of buying it, from a link, a share or a photo taken in a shop
  • Ask friends to vote Buy or Skip through a shareable poll link, by name or anonymously
  • Decide when the hold ends, and see a running total of money kept by skipping
  • Check in each evening on whether the day was a no-spend day, and build a streak
  • Look for the same item for less with Find it cheaper
  • Optionally pause shopping apps you choose, using Apple’s Screen Time framework
  • Access optional paid features through an in-app subscription

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms.

4. Account and sign-in

BuyJury uses Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your Apple or Google account secure. You must give accurate information and must not impersonate anyone. You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account.

5. Subscriptions and payments

Free plan

The free plan includes up to three new holds per month, 48-hour holds, a pause on one shopping app, unlimited polls and votes, the nightly check-in and streak, and two Find it cheaper checks per month.

Jury Plus

  • Adds unlimited holds, every hold length (24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours or 7 days), a pause on every shopping app you choose, full history, and 30 Find it cheaper checks per month.
  • Current prices are $3.99 per month or $29.99 per year (USD), or the equivalent in your local currency as shown in the App Store.
  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Manage or cancel in BuyJury → Settings → Subscription, or in your iPhone’s Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. We cannot issue refunds directly.
  • We may change prices. Any change applies from your next renewal, and Apple will notify you as its rules require.

6. Screen Time and paused apps

By granting Screen Time permission, you authorize BuyJury to show a pause screen when you open apps you have selected. The pause never blocks an app permanently; you can always continue or turn the feature off. Your app selections are handled on your device by Apple’s framework, and we cannot see which apps you chose. You can revoke permission at any time in your iPhone’s Settings.

The pause depends on Apple’s software and may not appear in every situation. We do not guarantee that it will prevent any purchase.

7. Polls, votes and your content

  • You own your content, including item details, photos and comments you add. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display and process that content only to operate and improve the Services.
  • Poll links can be opened by anyone who has them. Only share a poll with people you are comfortable seeing the item, price, image and your first name.
  • You are responsible for what you post. Only upload photos and details you have the right to share.
  • Votes and comments are opinions, not advice. BuyJury and the people who vote are not giving financial advice.
  • We may remove content or polls that break these Terms.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Services for any unlawful purpose
  • Post comments or content that harass, threaten, demean or are hateful toward anyone
  • Post sexual content, personal information about others, or anything that infringes someone else’s rights
  • Spam polls, manipulate votes, or use automated tools to vote
  • Attempt to access other users’ data or interfere with the Services
  • Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the App, except where the law allows
  • Resell or redistribute the Services

You can report a comment from the hold’s page in the app.

9. Retailers, prices and purchases

BuyJury is not a store and does not sell any products. Item names, prices and images are taken from the links and photos you provide, and Find it cheaper results come from third-party search results; both may be inaccurate or out of date. Any purchase you make is between you and the retailer, and the retailer’s terms apply. We are not responsible for retailers’ products, prices, availability or conduct.

The “kept” total is an estimate based on the prices recorded for items you skipped. It is not a statement of your actual savings.

10. Not financial advice

BuyJury is a tool to help you pause and reflect. It does not provide financial, legal or budgeting advice. You are responsible for your own spending decisions.

11. Intellectual property

The BuyJury name, logo, design, software and content we create are our intellectual property. Nothing in these Terms gives you any right to use them except to use the Services as intended. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without obligation to you.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

The Services are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties, express or implied, about reliability, accuracy, availability or fitness for a particular purpose.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from purchases you make or do not make. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Services will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising from your content, your use of the Services, or your breach of these Terms.

15. Termination

You may stop using the Services and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or if we stop offering the Services. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancel it in Settings → Subscription or your Apple ID settings. Sections 9 to 14 and 17 survive termination.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms. The updated version will show a new date at the top. If changes are significant, we will tell you in the app. Continuing to use the Services after changes take effect means you accept them.

17. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario, unless the consumer protection laws where you live give you the right to bring a claim there.

18. Apple App Store terms

If you downloaded the App from the Apple App Store:

  • These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content.
  • Your licence to use the App is limited to Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store’s Usage Rules.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App.
  • If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the App.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for handling any claims relating to the App, including product liability claims, claims that the App fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection claims.
  • If a third party claims the App infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating and resolving that claim.
  • You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo and are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
