Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 17, 2026
In short: BuyJury needs some information to work: your account, the items you put on hold, and the votes your friends send. Your holds, prices and totals are private to you. We don’t connect to your bank, we don’t show ads, and we don’t sell your information.
This Privacy Policy explains how BuyJury (“we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses, stores and shares personal information when you use our services (“Services”), including when you download and use the BuyJury app for iPhone, vote on a poll through a BuyJury link (with or without the app), or visit our website or contact us.
BuyJury is operated by Leon Parsaud, a sole proprietor carrying on business as NextVentureLab, based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
What BuyJury is. BuyJury is an iPhone app that helps people avoid impulse purchases. You put an item on hold instead of buying it, ask friends to vote Buy or Skip through a link, and decide when the hold ends. Optionally, BuyJury uses Apple’s Screen Time framework to pause shopping apps you choose.

1. What information do we collect?
Information you give us
- Account information. You sign in with Apple or Google. With Apple, we receive an Apple user identifier and, if you choose to share them, your name and email address (Apple lets you hide your email, in which case we receive a relay address). With Google, we receive your Google account identifier, name and email address. You also give us a first name and username, and we store your currency, companion choice and check-in reminder time.
- Items you put on hold. The item name, price, currency, store name, product link and photo, the hold length, and whether you skipped or bought it. These stay on your phone. From them the app calculates your “kept” total, which also stays on your phone.
- Polls. When you tap Ask friends, the item’s name, price, currency, store name (for in-store items) and photo are sent to our servers so friends can see and vote on them.
- Check-ins and streaks. Whether each day was a no-spend day stays on your phone. Your streak numbers are shared with your circle.
- Friends. The people you add, friend requests, blocks, and invite codes.
- Comments and votes you leave on friends’ polls.
- Bug reports and support messages you send us, with your app version and device model.
Information from people who vote without the app
Anyone with a poll link can vote without an account. When they do, we collect the first name they enter (or nothing, if they choose to vote anonymously), their vote, any comment, a random identifier stored in their browser, and a salted hash of their IP address (never the address itself), which we use to limit repeat voting and prevent abuse. Anonymous votes are stored as “Anonymous”: the voter’s name is never saved.
Product links
When you paste a product link, the app on your phone opens that page once to fill in the item’s name, price, currency and image. The details are saved with your hold on your phone; the page itself isn’t stored.
Find it cheaper
Only when you tap Find it cheaper on a hold, the item’s title and photo are sent to SerpApi, which searches Google for cheaper listings. The photo is held privately for no more than 10 minutes while the search runs, then deleted. We keep the listings found (store, price and link) for 7 days so a repeat look doesn’t cost another search. Your name, polls, totals and other holds are never sent.
Finding friends by email
Friends who type the exact email you sign in with can find you and send a friend request, which you can accept or decline. Nobody can browse emails, searches are rate limited, and you can turn this off in Settings. If you use Apple’s Hide My Email, you can’t be found by email.
Screen Time data
If you turn on paused apps, BuyJury uses Apple’s Screen Time (Family Controls) framework. The apps you pick are stored by Apple as private tokens on your device. We cannot see which apps you selected and never try to find out. We count only how many times a pause was shown and how many times you closed the app.
Information collected automatically
- Device and app information, such as device model, iOS version, app version and a push notification token.
- Usage events, such as “hold created” or “vote cast”, stored in our own database to understand how the app is used. These never include item names, links, prices or comments.
Payment data
Subscriptions are handled by Apple and RevenueCat. We never see or store your card details. We receive your subscription status so we can unlock paid features. See Apple’s privacy policy and RevenueCat’s privacy policy.
What we don’t collect
- We don’t connect to your bank, cards or email inbox.
- We don’t access your contacts.
- We don’t collect your location.
- We don’t use advertising identifiers or track you across other apps and websites.
- We don’t process sensitive information, such as health or financial account data.
2. How do we use your information?
In short: to run BuyJury, keep it safe, and improve it.
- To provide the Services: holds, polls, voting, decisions, check-ins, streaks, friends, your companion and notifications.
- To find cheaper listings when you ask.
- To process subscriptions through Apple and RevenueCat.
- To keep the Services safe: preventing spam and repeat voting, handling reports, and enforcing our Terms.
- To respond to you when you contact support or report a bug.
- To improve the Services using usage events that contain no item details.
- To comply with the law.
3. What legal bases do we rely on?
EU and UK: performance of our contract with you (to provide the app), your consent (for notifications and Screen Time, which you can withdraw at any time), our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention and product improvement), and legal obligations.
Canada: your express or implied consent. You can withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual limits, though some features may stop working.
4. Who can see your information inside BuyJury?
In short: your holds are private. Other people see an item only when you send them a poll.
- Holds, prices and your kept total are visible only to you.
- A poll shows your first name, the item’s name, price, image, where you saw it (for in-store items), time remaining, and the vote count. Anyone you share the poll link with can open it, and they may pass it on. Poll links are hard to guess and stop accepting votes when the hold ends.
- You see each voter’s first name (or “Anonymous”), their vote and any comment.
- Friends in your circle see your first name, username and no-spend streak. They never see your totals or amounts.
- When you vote, the person who asked sees your first name (unless you vote anonymously), your vote and any comment.
- Share cards you choose to post show only what is on the card.
5. When and with whom do we share your information?
We share information only with service providers that help us run BuyJury, under agreements that limit how they use it:
- Supabase for hosting, database, file storage, sign-in and usage events.
- Apple for Sign in with Apple, push notifications and App Store purchases.
- Google for Sign in with Google.
- RevenueCat for subscription management.
- SerpApi for Find it cheaper searches, only when you tap it.
- Vercel for hosting our website and poll pages.
We may also share information in a business transfer, such as a merger, sale or financing involving BuyJury, or to comply with the law and protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. BuyJury does not show ads.
6. International transfers
Our service providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. When that happens, your information may be subject to the laws of that country. We use providers that apply appropriate safeguards.
7. How long do we keep your information?
- Account and app data are kept while your account is open.
- When you delete your account, we delete your profile, polls, votes on your polls, friends and settings from our servers right away. Holds, photos and check-ins live on your phone and are deleted with it. Copies in backups are removed within 90 days.
- Poll photos are deleted 7 days after the poll ends or closes.
- Votes from people without the app are kept with the poll and deleted when the poll owner deletes their account.
- Find it cheaper listings are reused for 7 days.
- We may keep limited information longer where the law requires it.
8. How do we keep your information safe?
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, including encryption in transit and access rules that limit each user to their own data. Voter identifiers and IP hashes can’t be read by poll owners. Poll photos are served from links that are hard to guess. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Do we collect information from minors?
BuyJury is intended for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. What are your privacy rights?
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to some processing.
- Delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account.
- Turn off notifications in your iPhone’s Settings.
- Turn off being found by email in BuyJury’s Settings.
- Turn off paused apps in BuyJury’s Settings, or revoke Screen Time access in iPhone Settings.
- For anything else, email privacy@buyjury.com. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are in Canada and are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. If you are in the EU or UK, you may contact your local data protection authority.
11. Do-Not-Track
We do not currently respond to Do-Not-Track browser signals. We do not track you across other websites.
12. United States residents
In the past twelve months we have collected these categories of personal information: identifiers (such as Apple or Google user ID, username and a hashed IP address), commercial information (items you send as polls), internet or app activity (usage events), and user content (photos, comments and votes). We use them only for the purposes in Section 2.
We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You may request to know, correct or delete your information by emailing privacy@buyjury.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
13. Third-party links
Items you put on hold, and Find it cheaper results, may link to retailers’ websites. If you open those links, the retailer’s own privacy policy applies. We are not responsible for their practices.
14. Updates to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. The updated version will show a new date at the top. If the changes are significant, we will tell you in the app.
